If you’re like most people, Facebook is a vital part of your social life. It’s where you keep in touch with friends and family, share photos and updates, and connect with businesses and organizations. But if you ever lose your Facebook account or it gets hacked, you can easily delete it and keep another one. Here’s how:

  1. Log into Facebook using your username and password.
  2. Click on the “Settings” tab on the top left of the main Facebook screen.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the “Settings” page and click on “Delete Account.”
  4. Type in your username and password for both accounts into the “Delete Accounts” text field on the next page of the confirmation dialogue box that appears. Click on “Delete Account.”
  5. Click on the “Logout” button at the bottom of the Facebook screen to finish deleting your accounts.

Yes, you’ll have to reconnect with each one, but it’s a little price to pay in order to get rid of the extra profile. Then select Accounts & Settings from the drop-down menus below (top right of your screen). Under personal information, choose the close account and then continue. Select why you’re closing your account and click Continue.

Don’t have more than one Facebook profile. According to their Terms of Service, Facebook users are not permitted to maintain more than one personal account. As a consequence, any additional personal accounts you create will be deleted.

On Android or iOS, go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Personal Information > Manage Account > Deactivate.
