If you don’t want Facebook to keep track of your activities and data, there are a few steps you can take to close your account permanently.
- Log out of Facebook. This will take effect immediately and will prevent Facebook from tracking your activity on the site.
- Delete your Facebook account information. This includes your name, email address, password, and any other personal information that may have been stored on the site.
- Change your password. You should do this in order to protect yourself from unauthorized access to your account and data. You can find more information about changing passwords here or on the Facebook website.
- Disable cookies on your computer or device. Cookies are small files that are placed on your computer or device by websites that collect data about how you use them (such as when you visit a website again). If you disable cookies, Facebook won’t be able to track or collect any personal information about you on the site
To temporarily disable your account, go to your profile and select Profile. Then Edit Your Account. In the bottom right of the screen, touch or click Temporarily suspend my account. Select a reason from the drop-down menu next to Why are you stopping using your account? Then re-enter your password.
